PlayStation Vita

Sony’s E3 press conference last week revealed the official name of the new PlayStation handheld gaming system, PlayStation Vita or PS Vita. That’s an interesting name for a handheld. It wasn’t as interesting as another announcement Sony had revealed regarding this new system, and will get to that in a moment.

The PS Vita features a 5-inch multi-touch OLED screen, a multi-touch rear panel, front and rear cameras, Dual analog sticks, Six-Axis sensors, Wi-Fi or 3G, backwards compatibility with PSP titles, Trophy support and more.

There will be two PS Vita models available at launch: a Wi-Fi model for $249.99 and a 3G/Wi-Fi model for $299.99. At this price point it puts the system in a better position to truly compete with the Nintendo 3DS system, which has been available since March.

Now the most interesting reveal during the press conference was the fact that Sony is partnering with AT&T to provided 3G services. You could hear the lack of enthusiasm from the crowed when this was announced. Not sure how well this partnership will workout in the long run, only time will tell.

So, what do you think of the Sony PS Vita? Is this something your going to get on day one? Or will you wait to see what it has to offer after its been out for a few months?
